I've had the same problems with gracilentas before, during winter they don't like to eat very much (they don't eat much in the winter in the wild either) I would suggest to keep offering him food, but if it doesn't eat in a couple weeks or so you may need to force feed it, make sure the crickets aren't too big for it, mediums should be fine.

If thats the rescued frog its probably very stressed out.... give it plenty of places to hide and maybe leave it be a while then try again...

Yes they do get very stressed out after being resuced, I suggest you give him some time to recover etc. and the frog could probably take mediums (at least smalls) from the photos it appears to be an adult.

Are we talking about the same frog as in the rescued one? Becuase that frog doesn't look like 1.7cm unless you hav a very small hand. But to hand feed it just wiggle the cricket infront of its mouth and it should grab it.

If it is only that big, I'd go with small, but it looks at least 3cm from the pic :?

Don't try and force feed him right away, give sometime to recover, I suggest wating a couple weeks, like I said they don't eat much in winter (probably only once or twice in a couple weeks). I had a gracilenta that ate like 5 crickets over 7 weeks in winter. Just make sure there is some food in its enclosure so it can eat when it feels like it.

possible sick frog

Post by mummyontheedge » Sat Jul 21, 2007 2:42 pm

one of his hands is blood red like it had been stepped on and bruised and his back is not consistent in color. so someone told me he may have Chytrid fungus. i dont think he does but was looking for a picture of this type of fungus to make sure?
cheers

Frogs can go quite a while without food.... why on earth would you try and force feed it?? Leave it somewhere quiet with plenty of places to hide and dont handle it... Give it a week or two at least. Stress will put many animals off their food, me included.

My Brown Tree Frog has only just eaten for the first time in 3 months and is still looking tubby (admittedly he has been snoozing under a rock the whole time)

Hmm I don't think it would be chytrid, you should keep the frog warm just incase (chytrid does not do well in high temperatures) it could be an injury that it got in transport, frogs have a very good tendancy to recover from minor injuries, so give it a week or so and monitor it, if it gets worse you should contact a vet.

Post by mummyontheedge » Sat Jul 21, 2007 7:35 pm

Not too sure about that, they defiantely can get it, but their survival rate from it is a lot higher than other species. Any frog can be infected by it, it just depends how resisant it is to it that will determine if the frog gets sick or dies.

At the moment the I have gtf and perons, my gtf is still eating but my perons arent right now, I've had a dainty before, but I only had it for a couple months when I was quaranting it (it was also rescued) then I gave it to FATS.

I find with my daintys that the best way to get them eating is to have the food available to them and just about sunset, give them a litle spray with water and they usually wake up and feed if they want to.
No stress, no fuss.
It is the one way that I've found to get them moving around as they are quite still creatures, even in the depths of summer.
